Must exist and cover 180 days of instruction per academic year (1 July - 30 June). Indiana expects 180 days of instruction in an academic year running 1 July to 30 June; days the child was enrolled in a public or accredited school count toward it (IC 20-33-2-20).

Not required. Explicitly optional. IDOE's own guidance states reporting is not legally required and non-reporting carries no penalty.
The part the paperwork does not cover
Filing on time is the easy half. The harder half is the year in between: showing what your child actually learned, in words the reviewer recognises, without turning your home into a school.

A moment in any of those subjects is kept on the general map for your child's age and named that way in the record, so the record never cites Indiana's curriculum where we hold none of it. Read at the source on 2026-08-28: the Indiana Department of Education's homeschool FAQ at in.gov. Its words: 'Registration as a homeschool family is not required in the state of Indiana' - it is offered and optional. IC 20-33-2-20 requires that attendance records be maintained, and parents 'should provide 180 days of instruction in an academic year, which runs from July 1 of a given year through June 30 of the following year', with days enrolled in a public or accredited school counting toward the 180. The 180-day expectation was NOT on this page before today.
