Notice of Intent
At least two weeks before withdrawing the child from a public school
Goes to: County superintendent
Names, addresses and ages of the children, plus evidence that the instructor holds a high school diploma or equivalent, or a post-secondary degree or certificate from a regionally accredited or state-authorised institution.
Annual academic assessment
On or before 30 JUNE of the school year covered
Goes to: SUBMITTED to the county superintendent
Four options: (1) a portfolio of the child's work reviewed by a certified teacher who writes a narrative on reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies and notes any areas needing remediation; (2) a nationally normed standardized achievement test; (3) participation in the state testing programme; or (4) an alternative academic assessment mutually agreed by the parent and the superintendent.
The part the paperwork does not cover
Filing on time is the easy half. The harder half is the year in between: showing what your child actually learned, in words the reviewer recognises, without turning your home into a school.

It maps that to the published standards we hold for West Virginia, which today are Mathematics (487 of 496) and Science (502 of 535). Those figures count the topics we carry for ages 5 to 12 that cite one of West Virginia's published standards. We do not hold West Virginia's own standards for English and Social Studies yet, and they are being added. Physical Education is not in the app for West Virginia yet.
